A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR YOUNG AUSTRALIANS

How To Help

A Start in Life is a registered charity. We receive no government funding and therefore depend on the generosity of individuals, corporations and community groups to help us make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged Australian students.

Your donation will give a young person a start in life by ensuring the barriers to their education are removed, equipping each student to thrive and broaden their horizons. In doing so, you are making a positive difference to current and future generations.

The are many ways you can support the work we do and make a tax-deductible* donation to A Start in Life. Make a one off donation by clicking here and read below to learn about other ways you can give to A Start in Life.

If you wish to make a donation and remain anonymous or use a pseudonym, please call A Start in Life and ask to speak to the CEO or Finance Manager on (02) 9264 3017.

*All donations over $2 are eligible for tax deduction.

Make a regular donation

By spreading your donation across the year, you help provide us with a sustainable and reliable income we can then make available to students. Your donation will automatically be deducted from your bank account or credit card at the frequency of your choice (e.g. monthly or twice yearly). At the end of financial year, you will receive one receipt advising of your tax-deductible donations.

Three times a year, you will receive our latest newsletter, showcasing some of our students' achievements and updates. Each edition demonstrates how your support is helping these students overcome the barriers they face to their education.

Create a lasting legacy by leaving a gift in your will

For many reasons, we’re often not able to give as generously during our lives as we might want to. By leaving a gift to A Start in Life in your will, you will be equipping Australia’s next generation with the skills and education needed to succeed.

Workplace giving

Workplace (payroll) giving offers employees the opportunity to support A Start in Life from their pre-tax income. Workplace giving is a flexible and easy scheme that many employers already make available to their employees. Employees are given the option to commence, adjust or cease contributions at any time. Please check with your HR or Payroll team to determine if this is currently available to you. If you are an employer and wish to set up workplace giving with A Start in Life, please contact communications@astartinlife.org.au.

Donation as a gift

Giving a donation to A Start in Life on someone’s behalf is the perfect way to celebrate any kind of new start in life - from weddings to births and birthdays. For donations greater than $250, we are happy to provide an donation certificate via email. Please donate through the link below and then email

communications@astartinlife.org.au with your receipt number, a name and message (if desired) to be included on the certificate.

In memory gifts

Donating in memory of a loved one is a meaningful and special way to commemorate their life. Receipt letters and thank you notes are sent to everyone who gives a gift. A letter of acknowledgement is also sent to the family stating the final amount contributed in memory of your loved one. Please contact communications@astartinlife.org.au to arrange an in memory gift.

Foundation sponsorship

This program is available to supporters wishing to provide donations of $20,000+ per year. This donation will cover the value of the annual assistance we provide to two students. Twice a year, Foundation Sponsors will receive updates on two students. These updates will include information on the students':

  • Academic grades

  • Significant achievements

  • Challenges faced

  • Future goals

  • Educational assistance provided

Please click the link below to view samples of the updates typically provided. For more information on becoming a Foundation Sponsor, please contact communications@astartinlife.org.au.
